The Center for People in Need is pleased to announce Belinda Acosta, PhD as the new Director of Fund Development, effective August 8, 2022.

“Belinda’s strong and versatile writing background, project management and development and community outreach experience, paired with her desire to serve the community makes her a natural choice for Director of Development at the Center,” said Macala Carter, Executive Director. “I’m excited to work more closely with Belinda on advancing the Center’s mission and vision.”

Prior to joining the Center, Belinda held a variety of positions at Lincoln Public Schools and worked as a grant writer for TeamMates of Lincoln. Before that, she lived in Austin, Texas and worked as a columnist for the Austin Chronicle.

Among her community activities, Belinda is an active member of Las Voces of Nebraska and a community member of the Native American Advisory Committee at Lincoln Public Schools. She also participated in Leadership Lincoln.

“I decided that if I were going to remain in Lincoln, I would have to be doing necessary work that would make a difference in people’s lives,” Belinda said. “Joining the Center helps me do that. Its mission aligns with my values.”

Belinda holds a doctorate of English with a specialization in ethnic studies from the University of Nebraska and a master’s degree in writing and bachelor’s in humanities from the University of Texas at Austin.
