The Center for People in Need is keeping the holidays bright with its annual Thanksgiving Food Distribution this November. Low-income families with an up-to-date Center Card can receive Thanksgiving-themed food Nov. 20-22, 2022.

“For the thousands of people who visit our facility—more than 1,700 families each week right now—Thanksgiving can be an especially stressful time of year. It’s a huge reminder of the hunger families face on a daily basis,” said Macala Carter, executive director.

To help alleviate stress, the Center’s staff gather traditional holiday fare for the Thanksgiving distribution. Families may receive fresh produce along with classic Thanksgiving nonperishables like stuffing, beans and corn.

“We’re here to ensure everyone can celebrate Thanksgiving with food on the table,” Carter said.

Thanksgiving holiday food distributions will be held Sunday, Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. Participants must be a Center client to attend. For more information on how to become a Center client, visit cfpin.org/center-card or call 402.476.4357.

Additionally, the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department will host a vaccine clinic Monday, Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon and Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. to provide free flu shots and COVID-19 shots and boosters.

Almost 50 volunteers are needed each day to help support the event. Individuals and groups are encouraged to participate and may help with everything from greeting and guiding participants to stocking and distributing food items. Those interested in volunteering should sign up for specific shifts on the Center’s website at cfpin.org/volunteer or contact our volunteer coordinator, Lynette Carr-Girmus, at volunteer@cfpin.org.

“Volunteers are never more needed than during the holiday season,” said Carter. “We depend on the generosity and service of others to help staff our special events.”
