Advocacy

Center for People in Need is focused on people and their needs—but people are affected by policy,

and policy is made by political leaders.

That means we need to actively communicate with local and state policymakers about issues that could change the lives of disadvantaged and low-income families—Issues including Health Care, access to Food, Government Assistance, Education, and more.

To improve our advocacy efforts, we maintain an electronic network of friends and supporters through a website called UJoin.

Whenever an issue that will affect people in poverty is debated in the Nebraska Legislature, we send an email message through UJoin to members of our Action Alert Network. Our message explains the issue and includes information you can use to write your own advocacy email to key Senators.

More information about UJoin is coming soon. THIS SECTION IS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

Thank you for your patience.

You can find more information about becoming an effective advocate at these sites:

  •   How a Bill Becomes a Law is a short video from the Coalition for a Strong Nebraska that explains the steps in the  legislative process of creating a new law.
  •   Lincoln Vital Signs  offers information about poverty in our community.
  •   Free/Reduced Program  provides background on nutritional programs at Lincoln Public Schools.
  •   Nebraska Legislature presents information about the Nebraska’s law-making body and helps you identify your State Senator.
